Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom Technique also known as EFT, involves tapping on meridian points on specific areas of the body whilst tuning into a problem.
It is an easy technique to apply and is easily learnt either by going through the instructions step by step or by watching videos that have been made by Gary Graig who not only shows you the EFT Technique and how to apply it but also the different ways EFT can be used.
The first time I used EFT was for "Fear of Lifts". I would normally get to the doors of a lift and go cold. My stomach and legs would feel weak and my imagination would go into overdrive. More than often I wouldn't get in, walking 100 floors instead.
After going through the following procedure three times to get it to a zero, I was encouraged by my collegues to go out to the buildings lift to check it out, and to see if it had worked. It had worked in my head but I wasn't sure in "real life" if it really had made a difference.
I was really surprised when I found I had no physical symptoms at all when I approached the lift. In fact I was so excited I pushed the button for the doors to open and I walked in with no hesitation.
Since then I have been up and down in lifts with no emotion and have used EFT for numerous other issues that have made my life so much more fear free.
My favourite EFT session was when faced with travelling to another country in an aeroplane. I had a fear of flying since having a previous flight nearly end in tradegy.
This time, I was sitting at the airport with my husband, and as we kept having delays with boarding the plane due to problems with the emergency door etc we both started to panic. We decided to do some tapping on it. We went through several scenerios including even though we were frightened the plane might crash, even though we were feeling nervous about flying, even though noises on the plane make me feel like somethings wrong with the plane.
Not long after we boarded the plane. I can tell you it was an eventful flight with several things not going right, however, for us, it was like sitting on a bus. We didn't panic, we didn't get the psychical tightness you usually feel when you are terrified. Instead we sat their calmly throughout the whole trip! Thinking that we would probably have to repeat the tapping on our travels back, we found we didn't need too. I can fully recommend EFT for anyone that has a fear of flying.
It is really important to find out why you are scared of flying and tap on those specific issues.
Programs and movies on television can put fears into our minds. Sometimes we will wonder where these fears come from and its because while watching that film our bodies were experiencing the panic of those who were in the movie. Our brains are unaware that we are just watching and not actually in the movie itself in real life. That is why our heart starts beating faster and our bodies tense up.
So if you can't pinpoint why you have this fear, try doing a round on "Even though I am scared of flying since watching the movie ...................."
THE TECHNIQUE
STEP ONE: Think about and then RATE intensity of the memory, phobia, physical discomfort, craving is from 0 being the least and 10 being the most.
STEP TWO: THE SETUP: Rubbing in a circular motion on your sore spot continuously whilst reciting the following 3 times..
Even though I................................. ., I deeply and completely accept myself.
Fill in the dotted line with the issue you would like to address.
Eg: Even though I have a fear of heights or Even though I crave chocolate or Even though when I was six my father hit me or Even though I have a headache or Even though my friend committed suicide, or Even though my mother told me to eat everything on my plate or Even though I have a fear of lifts etc) BE SPECIFIC.
STEP THREE: THE SEQUENCE: Tap about 7 times on each of the following energy points while repeating the Reminder Phrase at each point. (The reminder phrase is a shortened version of step 2 eg: fear of lifts, craving chocolate, headache or father hit me)
